Gold Trading Strategy: Asian, London & New York Sessions

Short answer: Trade gold by session, not by guesswork: mark the Asian range, use the London open to see whether price is accepted outside it, and treat the New York open and US data as the high-volume test. Real futures volume levels (value area, POC, VWAP) tell you where those tests matter.

1. Asian session: build the map

Gold (XAUUSD) usually trades quieter in Asia. Use it to mark the overnight high and low, yesterday's value area (VAH, VAL), yesterday's POC and the developing VWAP. These are the levels the London and New York crowds will react to. Our XAUUSD analysis today page publishes them every morning before London.

2. London open: acceptance or rejection

The first London hour often pushes outside the Asian range. The question is not "breakout or fakeout?" but is volume accepting the new price? Acceptance looks like time and volume building outside the range (the developing value area moves). Rejection looks like a fast push, little volume, and a return inside, often a liquidity sweep.

3. New York open and US data

COMEX gold futures open their day session at 8:20 ET and the big US releases (CPI, NFP) land at 8:30 ET. This is where most of the day's volume trades. Watch the reaction at the levels from step 1: big aggressive volume that fails to move price is absorption; volume that moves price and holds is initiative.

4. A simple rule set to test (on demo)

FAQ

What is the best gold trading strategy?

There is no best strategy; a robust approach is to trade only at pre-marked volume levels (value area, POC, VWAP, session extremes) and require order-flow evidence there, with a fixed stop.

What is the best time to trade gold?

The London open and especially the London/New York overlap, when most of the day's gold futures volume trades.

Does the Asian session matter for gold?

Yes, mostly as a map: its range and yesterday's value area are the levels London and New York react to.
