Market presets

Market preset is the first setting in the indicator. It tunes a small set of sensitivity values for the market you trade, so you do not have to adjust them one by one.

The presets

PresetUse it forWhat it does
XAU/GC Intraday (default)Gold: XAUUSD CFDs and GC futures, intradayShorter swing and sweep lookbacks and more sensitive flow thresholds, tuned on gold.
BalancedA neutral starting point for other marketsUses the values shown as defaults in Settings.
Crypto IntradayCrypto pairsWider level tolerances for fast, noisy markets.
Forex IntradayCurrency pairsLonger swing and sweep lookbacks, tighter level tolerance, stricter flow thresholds.
ManualYour own tuningUses exactly the values you type in Settings.

Which settings a preset overrides

Important: Unless Market preset is set to Manual, the preset replaces the values below with its own. Changing one of these settings while a preset is active has no effect on the chart.

In AK FlowBook Full the preset controls seven settings:

SettingGroupWhat it controls
Confirmed pivot lengthStructure and liquidityHow many bars on each side confirm a swing high or low.
Sweep lookbackStructure and liquidityHow far back the sweep check looks for the prior high or low.
Edge tolerance (ATR)Auction mapHow close price must come to a level to count as touching it.
Level cluster distance (ATR)Auction mapHow close levels must be to each other to count as a cluster.
Delta proxy Z thresholdVolume / order-flow proxiesHow unusual the delta estimate must be to count as a delta event.
Big-volume proxy Z thresholdVolume / order-flow proxiesHow unusual bar volume must be to count as big volume.
Minimum decision scoreSetup contextThe lowest score the setup engine accepts.

In AK FlowBook Lite the preset controls five of these: Confirmed pivot length, Sweep lookback, Level touch tolerance (ATR), Delta proxy Z threshold and Big-volume proxy Z threshold.

All other settings work normally with every preset.

Choosing a preset

  • Gold (XAUUSD, GC): keep XAU/GC Intraday.
  • Other markets: start with the preset for that asset class, or Balanced. Switch to Manual only when you want to fine-tune the values above yourself.
  • Manual: copy the values you want into the seven settings above. With Manual, what you type is what the indicator uses.

Settings that are not part of a preset

Some settings are market-specific but are never changed by the preset. Check these when you move away from gold:

  • Limit setup markers to XAU/GC 5-minute (on by default). Setup context markers and setup alerts only appear on XAUUSD or GC charts on 5 minutes. Turn it off to see them on other symbols. The engine was built and tuned on gold 5-minute charts, so treat other markets as your own research.
  • Tick unit (price) in the liquidity layer (default 0.10, the gold futures tick). Set it to the minimum price step of your symbol.
  • Restrict FLOWBOOK X to XAU/GC 5-minute (off by default).
  • Session windows and their time zone. See Sessions.
  • News blackout (UTC), which by default covers Friday 12:00 to 14:00 UTC. See the Settings reference.
Note: The symbol check recognizes tickers that contain XAU and the GC futures root. Micro gold futures (MGC) are not recognized, so turn off the XAU/GC limit if you chart MGC.
